During Orientation Activities, it is crucial to be vigilant against sexual harassment and to actively oppose it by firmly stating NO !
There are two types of sexual harassment as defined under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance of Hong Kong:
1. Person-to-person sexual harassment
– A person’s unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature to another person, where an objective, reasonable person would have agreed that the conduct is offensive, humiliating or intimidating.
E.g.
Inappropriate touching by your groupmate
Group leaders sending you pornographic images/videos/texts on social media
ExCo asking you questions about your sex life
️2. Sexually hostile/intimidating environment
– A person’s conduct of sexual nature which creates a sexually hostile or intimidating environment for another person, even though the behaviour is not consciously targeted at an individual.
E.g.
Organisers delivering sexually-suggestive games in orientation camp
Making sexual jokes in WhatsApp Group
If you suspect that you are being harassed…
Say NO. Let others know the behaviour is unwelcome and must be stopped immediately.
