During Orientation Activities, it is crucial to be vigilant against sexual harassment and to actively oppose it by firmly stating NO โ
โ !
There are two types of sexual harassment as defined under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance of Hong Kong: โ
1. Person-to-person sexual harassmentโ
– A person’s unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature to another person, where an objective, reasonable person would have agreed that the conduct is offensive, humiliating or intimidating. โ
E.g.
Inappropriate touching by your groupmateโ
Group leaders sending you pornographic images/videos/texts on social mediaโ
ExCo asking you questions about your sex lifeโ
ย
๏ธ2. Sexually hostile/intimidating environmentโ
– A person’s conduct of sexual nature which creates a sexually hostile or intimidating environment for another person, even though the behaviour is not consciously targeted at an individual. โ
E.g. โ
Organisers delivering sexually-suggestive games in orientation camp โ
Making sexual jokes in WhatsApp Group
ย
โ If you suspect that you are being harassedโฆ โ
Say NO. Let others know the behaviour is unwelcome and must be stopped immediately. โ ย
